go play your video game [press start 2019]

Hello friend, it is time for video game fic and I am so excited to see what you will write for me! If you want inspiration beyond this letter I am also [archiveofourown.org profile] kimaracretak, where I have a small but reflective-of-things-I-like set of bookmarks, and kimaracretak on 8tracks if you want #aesthetic musical inspiration.

I've by and large chosen canons I love for their worldbuilding and mytharcs as well as their characters and relationships, and I am easy to please as long as you stay away from my DNWs (both general and canon-specific), so don't feel like you Have to write any of my specific prompts. Don't read anything into relative lengths of sections, I am equally happy to get something for anything in this letter! Some of these prompts are reused from old letters, and if you have written them for me before, rest assured that I loved your fic, I am simply greedy and would like to see every possible take on my favourite scenarios.

I love everything from short introspection bits to long plotty missionfic to sex scenes as ways to explore character/setting/worldbuilding, and I don't need a lot of romance in my ships: sex for power, manipulation, or just between friends who want to have fun is also great. Please no unrequested ships unless specifically allowed for, but feel free to combine any compatible ones from my requested ones.

Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

General: I prefer they/them pronouns for Boethiah, but am also fine with she/her ones. My Nerevarine is a female Dunmer named Mairi and sworn to House Hlaalu, but if you want to include the Nerevarine for plot purposes feel free to use your own

Almalexia/Boethiah, Almalexia & Boethiah: I'm putting these together because I genuinely don't care about the difference between shipfic and genfic for them. I just want anything and everything about Ayem and the god she loved/hated/overthrew/replaced/worshipped/fought - they're so gloriously tangled and so able and willing to punch straight into the heart of the other and take up residence there.

Almalexia & Azura: Honestly anything tbh. I know Ayem's mostly associated with Boethiahbut I'd also love to see how she comes up against Azura - explicitly-of-and-for-the-Chimer Azura - as well, especially considering she presents as Chimer rather than Dunmer while she's part of the Tribunal.

Almalexia & Sotha Sil & Vivec: The Tribunal make Morrowind for me, honestly. 'The gods have not done enough for us and we must take their place' is my favourite of favourite tropes, and I'm dying to read anything/everything about their time together both pre- and as-Tribunal.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

General: My dragonborn is a female Dunmer named Jessamine, but if you want to involve the dragonborn for plot reasons, don't feel beholden to that. I side with the Imperials in-game mostly to get the civil war quests out of my journal, but as long as Idgrod stays in Morthal I don't care who's winning the war in fic. I don't mind background Astrid/Arnbjorn if we matched on Astrid & Babette, but if you're writing Maven/Astrid I'd prefer you just pretend they're not married. I have no preference on who's Jarl in Riften for Maven fics. I love the potential for the horror of loss here - Skyrim as a country feels like it should feel emptier than it does, and I'd love something that leans into like - there should be more abandoned houses. There should be an entire village between Morthal and Solitude. Tell me ghost stories, and about messy love among the ruins.

Fandom-specific DNW: Stormcloak-controlled Morthal, Ulfric, mention of Arnbjorn in Astrid/Maven fic.

Astrid & Babette: On a mission together. Babette's recruitment, or her support for Astrid's rise to leadership. 'Astrid is my matron now'. Sharing their devotion to Mephala. Babette giving history/alchemy lessons to Astrid. AU where they both survive the destruction of the sanctuary and how they put their lives back together.

Elisif/Rikke: The Civil War quest would immediately become Something I Love if it were Rikke, reluctantly taking up arms against Jarl Elisif whom she loves, leading the Stormcloaks instead of Ulfric so - that AU! Their love for each other not being enough to solve the problem of do we die fighting the Empire or do we die smothered by it, but a universe where they get to have that conversation, instead of Tullius and Ulfric. Pre-canon time together, or post-canon rebuilding together.

Idgrod Ravencrone & Elisif the Fair: I love Idgrod so, so much and I really like the idea that she could serve as a mentor figure to Elisif, advising her on the intricacies of ruling and war. Perhaps Elisif retreats to Morthal for some peace post-war, perhaps a younger Elisif goes to her with questions. I believe Idgrod's visions are real, and would love if she and Elisif got to have a conversation about religion and mysticism. Epistolary fic would be especially lovely for them, letters back and forth between Solitude and Morthal, or a sort of future in-universe book of their collected letters.

Maven Black-Briar/Astrid: Theyyyyyyy wreck me, gods. Maven going through the mechanics of rule because it is something unchanging, something that she knows, and the routine is almost enough to drown the constant refrain of the world is changed the world is fallen (but this has not, and I am not, and she will not acknowledge the lie), and meanwhile there's Astrid free-falling from her patron, staring to the sky with eyes blurred with the ashes of all the times the Brotherhood and burned and risen and burned again, knowing that it is time for fire now if she is to have any chance at keeping her family safe because the world is changed the world is fallen (but the fire is taken from her, and her family is not safe). They both are firm believers in MY WAY NOW for entirely different reasons nonetheless both grounded in necessity Maven is Astrid's contact in the Thieves' Guild, Maven offers the Dark Brotherhood sanctuary in Riften. The differences between saying 'mine' and saying 'home'. How their relationship shapes and is shaped by their relationships with Nocturnal and Mephala respectively. I'm Morag Tong trash and Astrid brings the Brotherhood so much closer to them than they've been in ages and it goes so well with how Maven approaches the Thieves' Guild. Any of the songs on this fanmix as prompts.

Maven Black-Briar/Laila Law-Giver: You can never go wrong with hatesex for them tbh. For plotty fic: running cons against each other, sniping about who is more deserving of Riften, Laila trying to single-handedly reclaim Riften from Maven during the civil war quest.

Maven Black-Briar & Nocturnal: It drives me mildly bonkers that Maven theoretically runs the Thieves' Guild and yet we have basically no information on what she thinks of her guild's patron. Nocturnal who loves those who make their own luck, Maven who's made herself an entire city in an act of intentional or unintentional worship - I want to know everything about what they think of each other. I have a fondness for Noc as the exasperated over-coffee'd Daedric bookkeeper and I think she'd see a lot of herself in Maven - possibly more than Maven wants her to see.

Overwatch

General: I like missionfic/casefic, especially for all the angst it gives post-Fall fic/preemptive angst it gives pre-Fall fics (I am entirely up to date on the canon), but they're not a requirement. For Amélie ships, I have no preference if fic is set when she's Amélie or Widowmaker or both, and I also don't have a preference for never-married-to-Gerard!AUs vs pining/infidelity/open marriage so - whatever works for your fic! If Mercy's relevant to your fic, I am happy to see dark!Mercy as well as Overwatch!Mercy. Leaning into the body horror aspects around Ana's missing eye encouraged (I have a special love for flowers growing in the empty eye socket, because, well, I'm me) but not required. Any AU based off any skins for the requested characters (e.g. witch!Mercy, pirate!Ana, comtesse!Amélie) is welcome even if I haven't specified the general version of that AU in my likes. If you want to address the age gaps here, I really love how comfortable Ana is in her own skin, with her own age (even/especially her missing eye) and how that contrasts with her mixed feelings about what she's done, so anything that highlights that would be lovely.

Ana/Amélie:Not quite colleague-friend-lovers who can't quite kill each other, the best of the best who keep chasing after each other because there shouldn't be two of them but there are and an undeniable part of them loves it, aka the reason I fell into this game and this canon in the first place. I love the angst of their situationally-enforced separation and how they're women who draw lines between killing and leaving to die but can't quite examine the difference because that comes to close to their feelings. The problem of 'I should kill you but I can't hurt you because you have already hurt too much because of me' gives me life. Undercover as married, or married post-Fall because Ana is guilty and her eye is gone and Amelie is alone and Gerard's and nothing's right but maybe they can make it better, and at least someone else is close by. I love post-Fall fics - the angst, the guilt, the Shrike, the chase, the meeting across new post-Recall battlefields - but lighter pre-Fall missionfic, training, quiet moments where they almost forget that war is coming is also great!

Ana/Brigitte: I'd love something where Brigitte is Ana's squire/protege instead of Reinhardt's, and Ana's possessive side gets to come out. But also, Brigitte has so many conflicted feelings about Overwatch and what the organisation did to her father and Ana's ... pretty much synonymous with Overwatch in a lot of ways, so I'd love to see them trying to work that out. Or something set a little into the future, where they get to build a post-war life together. Messy loyalty, missionfic, vampire AUs, things incorporating Egyptian and/or Swedish mythology - anything, everything.

Ana/Ashe: Vigilante protector meets bored criminal gang leader and ... I feel like at least one (1) literal explosion occurs in addition to excellent sex. I would love undercover-as-a-couple fic for them, or Ana infiltrating the Deadlock Game for Reasons (those Reasons are probably 'Gabe wouldn't do it and I have nothing else to do with my time'). Anonymouse/semi-anonymous sex - everyone knows who Captain Ana Amari is, but Ana has no idea who Ashe is until it's far too late to back out. AU Ashe follows McCree to Overwatch and her relationship with Ana develops from there. Ashe's kill-witness line is 'you should join my crew' - in what scenario (post-Fall?) might she tell Ana that? What does their life together look like if Ana accepts?

Ana/Hana: Oh, this pairing could be just about anything - there is a strong possibility for shenanigans given their 'youth is wasted on the young' / 'come on Ana, I bet you did all sorts of crazy stuff when you were my age' exchange. Or you could do the exact opposite and lean into the angst of Ana watching her lover having to fight another war because of Overwatch's old failures. Or just give these two tired soldiers time to relax and enjoy each other. Or something completely else! There's the potential for so much emotional mentor/protege stuff here, and I want all of it.

Ana/Mercy: Rez is already lovingly bonkers video-game logic, so don't feel bound to come up with something super scientifically accurate about why resurrection requires marriage - I will love any level of worldbuilding. Ana has a complicated relationship with death and Mercy has weird messy feelings about being devoted to Ana but also having the power to kill and bring her back, so I am super into edgeplay-to-the-edge-of-death with them - maybe it goes too far and there's resurrection marriage and guilt marriage? Entirely magical witch!Mercy AUs are also great for the ritual tags (I lived in that skin before All-Stars this year don't @ me it's perfect). But I also love softer h/c fics, and the just sort of - weary bonding that comes from having seen So Much Shit on the frontlines, realising the depth of their feelings during a mission and just being - hey, why don't we get married? Bastet AU where Ana and Jack do go see Mercy, or one where Ana and Mercy started a relationship while Ana was the Shrike (up to you whether Mercy knew Ana's identity, in that case!).

Ana/Moira: Oh gods, they're so full of complicated angst, and so philosophically opposed to one another, but they fought sorta-together and that matters post-Fall (and imagine the extra angst when Ana's Overwatch colleagues find out who she shared the secret of her survival with!). I'd love to see stories of their time together pre-Fall too, though - trying to find common ground, knowing what's in between them, sleeping together anyway. If you want to go for porn - Ana's sleep darts getting put to creative sex-based use, sex as a way to try to bring the other around to one's side, post-fall but pre-recall 'anonymous' sex but only one knows the other's true identity. Battle adrenaline leading to sex (whether they're on the same/opposite sides). Ana's guilt over their secret relationship juxtaposed with Moira's total lack of care. Someone (preferably Amélie but I'm not picky as long as it's another female character) catches them. Moira comes back to Overwatch (or Ana somehow ends up with Talon) and they pledge their allegiance not to the organisation but to the other woman specifically. The Moira standing next to me in a spawn room once replied to Ana's idle 'if we stick together we will achieve the objective' with 'well THAT's an interesting hypothesis' and I would love to see something built around that exchange. Experiements with Moira's lifedrain/heal - Moira's callout when using life drain is 'tell me how this feels' and Ana has a Complicated(tm) relationship with death, and I want all the fucked-up ways in which they deal with (or, yknow, don't deal) with that.

Ana/Sombra: Sombra's not loyal to Talon for reasons beyond self-preservation, and I'd love to see Ana trying to exploit that somehow. 5+1 times they didn't mean to end up in bed together? Trying to seduce the other away from their respective organisations?

Sombra/Hana: Women who were forced to grow up far too fast with excellent tech/mechanic skills, yes please! I don't really have specific prompts for them, write what you like!

Star Wars: The Old Republic

General: I play a female cyborg Sith Inquisitor named Nevrasa in SWTOR. You can read more about her here if you want to write about her specifically, or you can use a generic inquisitor/your own/etc, I'm not picky and love meeting other peoples' PCs (and Nevrasa suffers a bit from 'first OC in this fandom' syndrome and isn't that fleshed out of a character). For this specific request, force ghosts do not count as dead for DNW purposes.

Female Sith Inquisitor/Darth Zash: I picked this class because of the Force magic and ended up buried under a pile of women-and-embodiment feelings. As I do. Everything from how Zash had to sacrifice her life essence to the Force in order to maintain her life for an eternity, to what it meant for a (cyborg) inquisitor to hear people talking about how and why she has to kill the (cyborg) Skotia. Add in the expectations of the master/apprentice dynamic and I am on the floor with feelings. I'm good with this being set at any time period, with feelings being requited or unrequited - I definitely see this as an accidental/political marriage, or one to keep an assumed/actual enemy close rather than a true love thing, but there's a very real-if-warped sort of affection there that I love to see explored. Basically, tell me about loyalty, and age, and magic, Sith betrayals and Sith passions and murder-as-love and all the altars they've had ritual sex on. Creepy marriagefic is also excellent - political marriages, plotting-to-kill-each-other marriages, accidental marriage because of Sith blood magic reasons - basically, any of the freeforms from my justmarried letter are fair game!

Female Sith Inquisitor & Ragate: The rite of blood and bone is such a tiny sidequest and yet - I love it, infinitely. Ragate makes a fascinating contrast to Darth Zash for the inquisitor, I think, not only in her whole concept of how Force magic works but also in her acceptance of age as a necessary price to pay for life. I'd love something from the inquistor's pov reflecting on that, or even Ragate's, if she knows who's apprentice she is. Ragate sends you into the blood pool saying I will await you here. If you die, I will forget you -- what sort of process is that forgetting? How many inquisitors has she forgotten, and seen succeed, and what makes this one special, if anything? Does the inquisitor try to replicate this sort of future-seeing elsewhere? Does Ragate survive the Korriban Incursion and put the later-game inquisitor through another ritual? Basically I just want something that digs into all the wonderfully weird bits of Force-magic and future-seeing and ladies and mentorship and all the associated feelings. [ blood legacy dialogue trees, for reference ]

Ragate: Anything about her life pre-canon - past Inquisitors she has seen try and fail, how she came to the Academy.

The Witcher

General: I am happy for any book details to be used for extra worldbuilding, but where the books and games differ go with the games. I follow the Scoia'tael path in Witcher 1 and Iorveth's in Witcher 2 and ask that you take the events of those paths as canon for your fic's worldstate. If relevant, I also ship Geralt/Yaevinn and Geralt/Yennefer/Triss, and love Geralt & Philippa as surprisingly idealistic murderfriends. For Sheala fic, please assume Geralt saves her in 'Enter the Dragon'.

Fandom-specific DNW: Dandelion, sorceress-bashing, the events of non-Scoia'tael paths, Witcher 3 DLC-focussed stories (I'm spoiled but haven't actually played them), reducing Yen & Triss' dynamic to 'I don't like you because you stole my boyfriend'

Ida Emean aep Siveny: I love elves and sorceress witchy half-legend oracles and obviously therefore Ida was created to cater directly to me. I'd love to see a gameverse version of her reckoning with Enid over elvish states and elvish homes and Nilfgaardian orders, or Ida with anyone else from the Lodge - mentoring Yennefer or fighting with Triss. Or just lean into the academic/worldbuilding side of things and give me excerpts of books she's written, or something about what it means to be Aen Saevherne - how does one cope with so much knowing?

Sabrina Glevissig: I have received some really excellent fic about Sabrina's ghost teaming up with Geralt to kill Henselt, and you know what? There is no such thing as too much fic of that sort. Let me fave do some murders of terrible kings! Or tell me a story where she never died and leads her cult as a living saint, or one about pre-game times with her sisters in the Lodge. Tell me about politics and magic and how Sabrina gets everything she deserves.

Toruviel: I would love to see her pre- or post-game 1, especially with Yaevinn - for pre-canon fics, use as much or as little of book canon as you like. Shipwise, I'm happy with pretty much any femslash you can think of!

Iorveth & Saskia: You have no idea how happy it makes me that Iorveth - cynical, tired, anguished Iorveth who wants an elven forest without end that also welcomes humans, delightfully murderous housecat Iorveth - looks at Saskia, the dragon who just wants peace, and goes: that one. That is my best friend whom I love. She is who I follow now Aelirenn is dead. The devotional secrets of their friendship wreck me, and I'd love to see the two of them in a quieter moment before the war council and the poisoning - they've know each other for years and I want to know everything about their pre-games time together. Background Iorveth/Geralt and Saskia/Philippa is fine - maybe Iorveth helping Saskia after Philippa's spell is lifted, or Saskia and Iorveth fighting for Philippa together in an AU where that alliance was voluntary?

Philippa/Saskia: This was My Everything for like five minutes before the mind control revelation, and, honestly? It's still My Everything, though in an entirely separate way. I'd love to see Philippa's thought process leading up to drugging Saskia, or the two of them dealing with the fallout if/when Saskia realises what happened. How does Philippa make amends to a dragon when she's not sorry for what she's done, what does Saskia think about what's come of Philippa post-Assassins of Kings? Or maybe Geralt never actually discovers that she's spellbound to Philippa - what would a Saskia-Philippa ruling alliance look like, whether Saksia's spellbound or not? I don't have a preference whether you write Saskia's curse as lifted or not, but don't have Geralt kill Saskia during the summit. Basically this hits everything I love about power and loyalty and questionably-compatible morals and I love.

Philippa/Sheala: Gorgeous ships about politics and plotting and king-killing and tricksters who love tricksters that I am here for in basically any form! My personal subtitle for Witcher 2 is 'Assassins of Not Enough kings, so a successful murder plot against Henselt or someone is great. CDPR came Directly for my id with blind prophetess Philippa, and I would love Witcher 3 fix-it that lets her interact with Sheala.

Geralt/Iorveth: Geralt is just ... deeply shippable with deceptively brittle sad angry elf lads who recite him poetry, what can I say, and I lowkey shipped these two from the moment that Geralt saw Iorveth lounging around in trees playing the flute. I adore the begrudging affection they have for one another, the way Iorveth's optimism collides with Geralt's [shrug emoji of asshole baby siblinghood]. I'd love to see them share a moment in Vergen, or perhaps something that puts Iorveth and his Scoia'tael into the Witcher 3 plotlines.
