Hello friend, it is time for alternate universe fic and I am so excited to see what you will write for me! If you want inspiration beyond this letter I am also [archiveofourown.org profile] kimaracretak, where I have a small but reflective-of-things-I-like set of bookmarks, and kimaracretak on 8tracks if you want #aesthetic musical inspiration.

I've by and large chosen canons I love for their worldbuilding and mytharcs as well as their characters and relationships, and I am easy to please as long as you stay away from my DNWs (both general and canon-specific), so don't feel like you Have to write any of my specific prompts. Don't read anything into relative lengths of sections, I am equally happy to get something for anything in this letter! Some of these prompts are reused from old letters, and if you have written them for me before, rest assured that I loved your fic, I am simply greedy and would like to see every possible take on my favourite scenarios.

I love everything from short introspection bits to long plotty missionfic to sex scenes as ways to explore character/setting/worldbuilding, and I don't need a lot of romance in my ships: sex for power, manipulation, or just between friends who want to have fun is also great. Please no unrequested ships unless specifically allowed for, but feel free to combine any compatible ones from my requested ones.

Alternate Universes

There's a few AUs I've requested across all or mostly-all fandoms, so I'm going to put some general ramblings about why I love them up here to start with!

Aniara AU: Harry Martinson's Aniara is an epic scifi poem about a group of travellers fleeing a dying Earth and heading to Mars. When their ship swerves to avoid an asteroid they get flung off course, stranded forever in space. It's a poem about beauty in emptiness, about connection and perception and ways to make the void meaningful. Isagel and the narrator are the main ship from the poem, but don't feel that means you need to cast the requested the requested characters as them (I also love Isagel/The Blind Poetess, and am totally happy to see the requested characters as just regular passengers as well). In the Star Wars and Stargate requests, feel free to go for a fusion - the requested characters stumbling upon the Aniara on its voyage, or the poem rewritten as an in-universe legend. If you want to bring in things from pre-existing adaptations, I am most familiar with Seventh Wonder's 'The Great Escape' (youtube, lyrics) and Andreas Kleerup's Aniara which is on Spotify - I haven't seen the opera.

Changeling: The Lost AU: CtL is the tabletop game of my heart, and I just - want all my favourites to be in that world too. Please have them be captured by the Fae and bond while being transformed and navigating court politics - or have them be True Fae themselves. I have a slight preference for stories set in Arcadia or the Hedge, but absolutely will not say no to Earth-set ones. Sourcebook-wise, I am most familiar with Dancers in the Dusk, Winter Masques, and Night Horrors. I especially love oneiromancy and am super weak for stories that contrast the deep sense of place/setting with changelings' very tenuous sense of self.

Scandinoir Setting/Fusion: I don't have a preference as to whether you place the requested characters in a general Scandinoir setting or if you cross/fuse them with a specific show - my favourites of the genre are probably Jordskott, Bron|Broen, and Grenseland, but if it's Scandinoir I have probably watched it. For the Star Wars requests, feel free to keep the Force as a semi-explained magical thing or not. I like the optimistic bleakness of Scandinoir, the way people carve out tiny safe havens for each other: devotion among crime, half-alive cities, the sense of 'us and the world against the bad things'.

Space Pirates AU: This is the straightforward one. The requested characters are pirates, and they are IN SPACE, and I am happy. For the Stargate and Star Wars requests, feel free to make them canonverse space pirates or not as the mood strikes you.

The Shimmer (Annihilation) appears in another canon's setting: *Points at the pretty plant-based body horror* I dunno, I just think it's neat. Well, no, I do know: I love changeling stories and nature-as-hungry-entity stories and stories about how desolation is never bleak and usually alive. For these requests I am most interested in seeing what Area X looks like for those other canons: we know what it looks like in not-Florida, so what does it look like in the forests around Whitestone, the middle of the Unknown Regions, in the basement sections of Atlantis that are still half underwater?

Vampire: The Requiem AU: Look, you can never go wrong with making my faves vampires! But VtR vampires are exceptionally good, like, let vampires be monsters! Lean into the horror, the crumbling of the world, the bonds that are formed against peoples' better judgement. Sourcebook-wise I am most familiar with Coteries and Circle of the Crone.

Critical Role

General: I consider the campaign guide, artbook, and anything said on Talks Machina nebulously canon at best (and don't know much of what's said on Talks, because I can neither watch live nor afford Alpha) so feel free to conform to/depart from what they say as you wish. I'm familiar with most wider D&D lore/sourcebooks/mechanics from 3.5e onwards, including 5e's unearthed arcana, if you want inspiration for additional worldbuilding/plotting (though I know 4e best). I like fics that take into account mechanical D&D limitations (e.g. characters saying they need to rest before doing any more magic) but DNW characters using the actual real-world terms (e.g. characters saying they're 'out of spell slots'). I adore 4e's epic destinies and would love it if you incorporated relevant ones for the requested characters (special love for World Tree Guardian!Keyleth, Master of the Eternal Hunt!Vex, and Archspell!Delilah with Finger of Death, but, yknow, go wild!). Canonverse Vampire!Cassandra and fey!Vex are welcome AUs for any of these ships.

Fandom-specific DNW: Scanlan, Percy, Percy/Vex even as a mention/background, ace!Keyleth

Requested AUs:

  • ALL: Aniara AU

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU

  • ALL: Cosmic Horror/Eldritch Abomination AU

  • ALL: Scandinoir Setting/Fusion

  • ALL: Space Pirates AU

  • ALL: Vampire: The Requiem AU

  • ALL: Vampires

  • CR: Cassandra Escapes the Briarwoods Instead of Percy

  • Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation) appears in another canon's setting

Cassandra de Rolo: I love Cass infinitely and in all iterations: dutiful vampire Briarwood daughter, youngest and most lethal Vox Machina member, tired young lady of Whitestone trying to hold her already-fractured city together at the end of the world, dark queen of Whitestone with Raishan as her most trusted advisor. I love vampire!Cass, whether that's canonverse (I am extremely fond of Sylas and Delilah killing + resurrecting her over and over again) or in a VtR setting. Gen is great, femslash is great - I love her with Delilah, Vex, and as a third partner for established Allura/Kima, or with any other ladies you might think of! Cass as a Changeling and Sylas and Delilah as her keepers, space pirate Cass dismantles the Briarwoods' empire, post-escape Cass becomes an eldritch horror and returns to Whitestone as More than anyone planned.

Vax & Vex: The twins hurt my heart and I want something with them happy-ish and supporting each other, mostly. Navigating Changeling court politics, mentoring Cassandra, being the vaguely-witchy forest-dwellers hovering at the edges of the crime scene in some remote Swedish town, exploring the Exandian version of Area X, or comforting each other on a doomed ship. In Scandinoir AUs I think it would be super cool to delve into the equivalent of Vax's canonverse Thieves' Guild connections and Vex's conflicted (or not) feelings about it. Vampire siblings are always excellent, canonverse or not - maybe vampire!Cass is Vex's girlfriend and turns her and so Vex must obviously turn her brother because what's the point of being a vampire if your twin isn't, or perhaps the half-legitimate mostly-clanless twins are struggling to find legitimacy in Ventrue-dominated Syngorn. Or, yknow, space pirate twins go on an adventure! Vampire space pirate twins go on an adventure? Vax post-campaign 1 is some delightful Shadowfell-based eldritch horror that Vex delights in introducing to everyone she meets?

Vex/Keyleth: I love them! I love that they're sweet and messy and complicated and have the potential for so much darkness (Vex and Fenthras questionably-accidentally killing Keyleth and turning her into a tree, y/y/fuck y) and I would be thrilled to see that explored in some kind of changeling/vampire/cosmic horror AU. I have a handful of eldritch/blood ritual marriage freeforms for them in my justmarried letter that you're welcome to incorporate into any AUs. Space pirate heists, building gardens on the Aniara (I am fond of the idea of them as Isagel and the narrator, but they could just be regular passengers), forming a Changeling motley or helping Cassandra as she grows up with them.

Ocean's 8

General: Feel free & encouraged to involve the rest of Debbie's crew as desired, but I haven't seen any of the other Ocean's movies and would prefer your story doesn't rely too heavily on characters/plots from them. No fandom-specific AUs requested, so feel free to do whatever sort of first-meetings/post-canon/new heists in a new setting you like. From canon, I love the clothing porn, the always-imminent probability of SHENANIGANS, bonding over crime, and the depth of the affection between all the women.

Requested AUs:

  • ALL: Aniara AU

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU

  • ALL: Cosmic Horror/Eldritch Abomination AU

  • ALL: Scandinoir Setting/Fusion

  • ALL: Space Pirates AU

  • ALL: Vampire: The Requiem AU

  • ALL: Vampires Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation) appears in another canon's setting

Debbie Ocean: I love how smart she is, and how even when she's seemingly distracted by revenge she's really got five tracks of backup plans running in her head. I'd love anything that showcases her leadership abilities - whether she's leader of a Changeling motley convincing others to escape with her or whether she's gathering a crew for a space pirate heist. Something with Danny pre-death (or post-faked-death) would be fun, I am always up fo sibling hijinks! Debbie/Lou is great, obviously (see below for details), but I also super shipped Debbie/Amita in the movie, so something with them (Vampire!Debbie turns Amita, who quickly finds out that life among the Kindred is not significantly better than in her mother's house?) would be great.

Debbie/Lou: I love that they were everything to each other without it being flattened down into something as simple as romance. I love that they're sharp and messy and they don't blunt each other but they fit with each other perfectly. I'd love really anything exploring their life together, in any of these universes - as Kindred (Daeva or Mekhet?), as criminals looking for a new challenge in some remote Scandinavian town, or gorgeously attired pirates IN SPACE.

Rose/Daphne: I'm super interested in the idea of Daphne as Rose's muse - that moment on the red carpet when Rose was asked what inspired the dress and she just pointed at Daphne really stayed with me. They both feel very Spring-court aligned to me in Changeling AUs (Fae!Rose meeting Changeling!Daphne and COURT DRAMA ensuing?), but explorations of them in other courts or unaligned is great. Casefic with Debbie and the rest of the crew (SPACE HEISTS), crafting weird living clothing out of the land beyond the Shimmer.

Picnic at Hanging Rock (TV)

General: This show has a thesis of 'why be a girl when you could be an eldritch horror instead' because it loves me, it really loves me. I love the bonds and the backstabbing and the love-through-horror, I love the changeling girls and the amount of respect it gives stories of self-creation. I love the contrast between the suffocating boarding-school atmosphere and the equally terrifying 'I would like to let the sky eat me' of the Rock and how that's reflected in the characters' emotional relationships. Permadeath of any of the requested characters is fine for this fandom, as is ambiguous/show-consistent explanations of what happened at the Rock. The show does so much excellent work with forests that probably want to eat you/nature which tries to eat you/nature which wants to crawl inside you and never come out and I want to see infinitely more of it!

Requested AUs:

  • ALL: Aniara AU

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU

  • ALL: Cosmic Horror/Eldritch Abomination AU

  • ALL: Scandinoir Setting/Fusion

  • ALL: Space Pirates AU

  • ALL: Time Loop

  • ALL: Vampire: The Requiem AU

  • ALL: Vampires

  • Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation) appears in another canon's setting

  • PAHR TV: Hester & Dianne found a new academy together

  • PAHR TV: Marion becomes a teacher at the academy

Dianne/Greta: I am up for any sort of came-back-wrong!Greta - time ghost, dream sex, sex to bring Dianne into the space beyond the Rock. I love the mindfucky dreamy atmosphere of the canon and think that would be super neat to explore in a sex scene with these two, especially during the picnic and especially during picnic-set time loops. I feel like they'd have one of those surface-level soft and romantic relationships that's actually fairly dark - whether that's their desire for painplay, the angst caused by staying secret, or something else. In Scandinoir settings I think it'd be interesting to see them in an established relationship - perhaps hiding secrets from each other, or perhaps working together to maintain the respectability of the school, or disagreeing over how much information should be shared. Does Greta come back to Hester and Dianne's new academy, and is she welcomed? Does Dianne see Marion as a threat to her happily-ever-after with Greta, and does that change if Marion becomes a teacher?

Greta/Marion: Secret relationship and mentorship problems, everything I love. Greta's so ambiguosly lost at the end, even more so than Marion and Miranda - does she ever find her way past the rock and into Marion's new world? What does that look like? Firsts - first meetings, first kisses, first times with various sex acts, first time a parent looks at those two teachers and wonders. Marion becoming a teacher at the Academy, either the mid-canon one or post-canon if Hester succeeded in building a new one, and what that might look like when Miranda and/or Irma are still lost, or perhaps she came back instead of Irma. Time loops where they try over and over to pass beyond the Rock together. One turning the other into a vampire.

Hester & Sara: Their cold war is one of my favourite things about the show, and I just want to see more of it, whether it's pre-series, missing scenes, or even post-series where they're ghosts haunting each other. I'd love to see them at the Rock together in some sort of canon-divergence, or pre-series fic about Sara first coming to the Academy and starting to become suspicious of Hester. More sneaking around, more disturbingly cheerful games, more races through the woods, just - more of them. Sara going to teacher!Marion in one of those AUs to try to convince her to turn against Hester. Sara is actually a thousand year old vampire in ten year old skin. Space pirate!Hester grooms Sara to be her successor but is unprepared for Sara's morals. Sara is something Hester finds beyond the Shimmer.

Hester/Dianne: I mean, hatesex for always if you go shippy, or any sort of emotionally manipulative sensuality. There's an odd undercurrent of 'why aren't you better' that they both have towards each other (and themselves) and I'd love a story that lives in the lovely-awful tangled knots they tie each other into, and the ways in which they can't quite bring themselves to wish they were more like the other. I'd love to see an AU where Dianne accompanies Hester to the Rock or one where Hester and Dianne moved and built a new school out of the ruins of the first Academy. Any sort of post-canon fic where Hester haunts Dianne in her new position. Hester and Dianne as Dark and Light-aligned Sith (respectively?) disagree over the running of their school. Hester helps Dianne adjust to the Australian Masquerade, and how it differs from the one in France.

Hester/Miranda: I love how Miranda spends the whole series deconstructing Hester so deftly no one's quite sure what she's done til the very end. Maybe Hester sees Miranda at the Rock, maybe Miranda taunts her about Sara, maybe one of Hester's attempts to dress her up nicely backfires somehow. An extension of the punishment scene, especially one including Hester bandaging her hands afterwards instead of Irma and Marion, and the glorious emotional whiplash that could provoke. Miranda's space pirate crew blackmailing Hester's, Hester turning Miranda in a vampire AU.

Irma/Miranda/Marion: Gods. These girls and their vows to each other that literally break time and space, I am obsessed. Stories of their time beyond the Rock, Irma comes back, more games like the body-comparison scene, any of the girls as literal cosmic horror entities, space pirate heists.

Miranda & Sara: The ways in which Miranda and Sara try - and fail - to protect each other from Hester (and maybe end up just hurting each other more in the process) are endlessly fascinating to me. I'd love something that plays up the identity confusion - they all see dangerous amounts of themselves in each other and it arguably leads to both of their deaths. One turns the other into a vampire in an attempt to save them, the two of them fleeing past the Shimmer to try to stay safe and just ending up in more trouble. All the ghost!Sara fic and what might happen if she managed to follow the other girls out to the Rock.

Stargate Atlantis

General: I didn't really enjoy seasons 4 & 5 of Atlantis, with the exception of Keller's presence and a couple bits of wraith lore, so would prefer nothing that relies too much on that part of canon. Fey things and sentient cities are love, human exceptionalism and campy things are boring to me, old gods and half-gods and the promises and compromises made to survive in the Pegasus galaxy delight me. Canon-divergence AUs, especially Wraith Queen Teyla/Asuran Queen Elizabeth/Independent-from-Earth Atlantis, are love (all three in one fic or just one). Sentient Atlantis, whether as a worldbuilding detail or as a major plot point, will always make me happy. I love in-universe versions of the World of Darkness AUs - what is it like to be a Kindred in the Pegasus galaxy as opposed to on Earth? - or Stargate characters in the CtL versions of Arcadia/the Hedge/etc.

Requested AUs:

  • ALL: Aniara AU

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU

  • ALL: Cosmic Horror/Eldritch Abomination AU

  • ALL: Scandinoir Setting/Fusion

  • ALL: Space Pirates AU

  • ALL: Vampire: The Requiem AU

  • ALL: Vampires

  • Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation) appears in another canon's setting

  • Stargate Atlantis: Asuran Queen Elizabeth

  • Stargate Atlantis: Kate doesn't die

  • Stargate Atlantis: The Atlantis expedition declares independence from Earth

  • Stargate Atlantis: They never reconnect with Earth

  • Stargate Atlantis: Wraith Queen Teyla

  • Stargate: Pegasus Races Find Atlantis First

Elizabeth & Atlantis: Ten thousand years Elizabeth slept in the city under the waves and for ten thousand years the city kept her safe under the waves and I'm emo about it. I love love love the sentient city, especially when Elizabeth is the only one who knows and gets to decide who to share that fact with. I would love worldbuilding with this, especially in independent Atlantis AUs or Pegasus races were already there AUs - there's so much of the city that we don't get to see, and I want to explore all those hidden corners! This can 100% be paired with other requested Elizabeth ships.

Elizabeth & or / Helia: The combination of Helia - proud, lost, attached to Atlantis half out of obligation - and Elizabeth - proud, not quite lonely, bound to the city for ten thousand years - absolutely wrecks me and I want them to spend more time together! How do things change when an independent Atlantis is the one to make contact with Helia and her crew, and there is nowhere for Helia to send them back to? If stasis has turned Helia and her crew into something inhuman and not-Ancient, twisted by the years in the void between galaxies into things that only know how to want and how to pretend to be Lantean? Or, you know: The conflict between small-town detectives and big-city police is at the heart of a lot of Scandinoir, how does Elizabeth and Helia's conflict play out when they're forced to work together to chase the Wraith in the woods? True Fae Lanteans + Changeling expedition memembers? Elizabeth crosses through the Lantean version of the Shimmer and finds Helia beyond.

Elizabeth/Kate: Nnh, these two. They carry so many secrets, and have so few people to talk to. Tbh I can't see Elizabeth ever really directly talking about how hard life can get, but I think Kate would try to find creative ways to help her de-stress. I'd love fix-its for either or both of them - Elizabeth injects Kate with nanites and she's saved from the dream BECAUSE ROBOTS. Missionfic shenanigans - derelict ships, vampires, etc.

Elizabeth/Teyla: I love anything that lets them be co-rulers of Atlantis, whether they're both human and things are (relatively) normal, or if they're less beatific Wraith/Asuran queens. Whether setting-change AU or canonverse I'm happy with basically anything that lets them adventure together - slice of life fic (negotiating a trade agreement, exploring new parts of the city, etc), or thorny politics, or anything like that. I love how equally matched they are and how willing they are to learn from each other, and I'd especially love that in AUs where there's Wraith/Asuran politics complicating things, or they're trying to build a new society independent from Earth (declared independence and just-never-reconnected are both good!). I'd love for a missionfic sort of thing - a WEIRD DERELICT SHIP (space or ocean) is found! A WEIRD SKELETON is found! Vampires are found! Cultural worldbuilding of any sort is also always great. For CtL AUs, perhaps Pegasus races are True Fae, or perhaps Elizabeth & Teyla are leaders of separate motleys that need to ally against the Wraith-equivalent True Fae.

Elizabeth/Vala: I love the idea of Vala's boundless curiosity coming up against Elizabeth's protectiveness of her city, whether Vala's a part of the Atlantis expedition or just visiting. Vala tries to bond with Elizabeth about how they'd both been altered by ancient civilisations only to find that Elizabeth has fully embraced her Asuran identity. Something happens on Earth and Vala flees to Atlantis to convince Elizabeth the expedition needs to declare independence.

(Fandoms soon.)
