rare femslash ex 2022
Hello friend, it is time for femslash and I am so excited to see what you will write for me! If you want inspiration beyond this letter I am also
kimaracretak, where I have a small but reflective-of-things-I-like set of bookmarks, and kimaracretak on 8tracks if you want #aesthetic musical inspiration.
I love these canons for the worldbuilding and mytharcs as well as their characters and relationships, and I am easy to please as long as you stay away from my DNWs, so don't feel like you Have to write any of my specific prompts. Don't read anything into relative lengths of sections, I am equally happy to get something for anything in this letter! Some of these prompts are reused from old letters, and if you have written them for me before, rest assured that I loved your fic, I am simply greedy and would like to see every possible take on my favourite scenarios. Though I've loads of specific dark- & smut-focussed likes, don't feel obliged to pull from those lists. That being said, I'm extremely not into plotless/conflictless fluff, and would prefer you avoid it.
I love everything from short introspection bits to long plotty missionfic to sex scenes as ways to explore character/setting/worldbuilding, and I don't need a lot of romance in my ships: sex for power, manipulation, or just between friends who want to have fun is also great.
General: Alphabetical order declares my letter start off with a book I honestly don't expect most people to've read! The Basic Eight is the heavily-annotated diary of Flannery Culp, a normal high school senior who is mostly preoccupied with things like English class and hosting dinner parties with her seven best friends and trying to figure out why boys are such assholes - and why it's totally unfair that everyone is calling her a murderer just because she did a little bit of murder. It's sparkling and funny and vivid and had one of my favourite unreliable narrators of all time, and just self-aware enough of its pretentiousness not to be annoying. Ship prompts contain spoilers.
Flannery/Natasha: What a delightful mess of unreality and obsessive creation. I have no preference on whether you choose to make Natasha real, imaginary, or some delightfully ambiguous combination.
General:
Note: Apocalypse DNW obviously waived for this fandom, but I prefer no in-story mass death/things getting Distinctly Worse
General: I want to say something intelligent about this show but I'm extremely 'no thought head Birgitte and Hanne and Katrine' about it, so feel free to combine these ships as well - I'd be delighted by, say, Birgitte/Katrine & Hanne. I generally prefer fic set closer to 2013 than present-day in post-canon fic, and DNW the contemporary European political landscapes in futurefic — I'd like a Denmark that was kept more thoughtfully & compassionately to the left because of Birgitte's politics, a UK that didn't leave the EU, that sort of thing (this does not apply to American politics, keep those as is or go alt-history as you wish). I have not seen series 4 but I am broadly spoiled for it, so use it or not as you wish, I trust your judgement.
Note: Referenced/past Birgitte/Phillip, Kasper/Katrine, and Hanne/her ex are fine. I'd prefer if you pretended Birgitte/Jeremy never happened, even if we didn't match on a Birgitte ship.
Birgitte/Katrine: Did I love what season 3 gave me? Yes. Do I want more? Also yes.
Birgitte/Hanne: Also known as: the scene early in s1 where someone was like 'no one wants to hire Hanne anymore' and Birgitte responded by giving her the first question made a much bigger impact on me than anyone intended.
Hanne/Katrine: Their relationship is hands-down the best part of s2, and I love that they both truly need each other and are good friends to each other in a way that transcends their (theoretical) mentor-student positions.
General: This is a standalone novel about five women in an MFA program, and the ways in which they are wonderful-terrible to each other and regular-terrible to the men they create out of animal corpses. There's axe murders, academia tropes, and much fun to be had by ... well, some. It brings me joy. Perhaps it will bring you joy too? Prompts contain spoilers.
Samantha/Ava: Extremely good falling-for-your-own-creation vibes! They are very Bad Gay Representation(tm), but as luck would have it, they are also some of My Favourite Types Of Representation(tm). I would love anything with them, and I am also happy to see this as a threesome or moresome with any of the other Bunnies.
General: Did I think this would be a fun way to waste six hours while watching Lesley Sharp be hot and morally ambiguous in a trenchcoat? Yes. Did I end up with many more feelings than I had planned for? Also yes. I like worldbuilding and fucked-up codependency, know nothing about the anime(?) this was based on, and have not seen series 2.
Farah/Rosalind: I cannot BELIEVE how specifically every single part of this ship was calculated to appeal to me, specifically. Like ... what part of 'We were the first fairies to combine our magic, I have a mentorship complex the size of the moon and accidentally committed war crimes for you, and then locked you in my basement for sixteen years out of guilt and love before you failed to kill me because you, also, have more grief and love than you know how to identify or deal with' was I supposed to not fall in love with? They're ridiculous. I'm obsessed.
General: I love this gorgeous dark dreamy murder show and I love all the ladies. I have some freeforms in an old Darkest Night letter that I'd love to see in any form.
Note: Character death DNW waived for casefic OFCs and all canon characters except Alana, Bedelia, Freddie, and Beverly.
Alana/Bedelia: I mostly just want them being hot and terrifying and brilliant, in any way you like. I am indifferent to Alana/Margot and have no preference for cheating/never happened/open relationship/before they met/whatever you want handlings of that ship.
Carolyn Barek/Alex Eames: We were robbed of more Barek, frankly, and I want more of her being clever or soft or prickly or sexy or terrifying with Alex. Casefic or scenes-from-casefic where she and Alex were always partners. Drinks after work. Casual friends-with-benefits hookups. AUs where Barek doesn't leave, and what that changes. Not necessarily looking for romance/happily-ever-after but not opposed to it. Bonus for Bobby being quietly happy for them.
General: I haven't seen series 6, but given that it's not got Rhona and all my requests involve her, I'm not sure it matters much, promptswise! I like selkie!Rhona AUs, fics that explore the challenges of Shetland life vs mainland life, fics set outside with lush descriptions of the sea, gratuitous digs at Calmac ferries, and Scottish mythology. Explicit Remain-won AUs are delightful, but not necessary as long as I can pretend Remain won and there's no Brexit. Fic in Scottish Gaelic super welcome if you speak it. Background/mentioned Jimmy/Duncan welcome. On the whole I liked how Rhona/Phyllis ended, and am interested in stories exploring how Rhona moves on, but AUs where they were never together are also great.
Fandom-specific DNW: Rhona permanently moving away from Shetland.
Rhona/Anke: They're both dealing with massive professional fallout and personal betrayals (I definitely saw Lars as as close to a friend as Anke had at work) and I think they could bond over that. I definitely see this as a friends-with-benefits/casual long distance thing - Rhona benefiting from not being with someone who makes her think about life-altering moves, Anke getting someone undemanding to be with. Late-night conversations about cases, phone sex, saving each other from boredom at some international law enforcement conference.
Rhona/Asha: I love Asha a lot a lot, and I really wish we'd gotten more of her outside of Jimmy's perspective.
Rhona/Cassie: Cassie does a lot of figuring herself out over the years, and while Rhona is canonically a part of that, I'd like to see how their relationship evolves into something in its own right. I'm not particularly looking for endgame/happily ever after here, just sweet/sexy/sad moments of connection.
Rhona/Tosh: Mentorship stories that came straight for my heart and did not let go! I like anything for them, first meetings, mentorship snapshots, helping Tosh feel comfortable in her body again post-s3.
General: Clockwork Fairyland! What is there not to love? This weird little book snuck into my life and ruined me in the best way possible and I would love to be further ruined by any fic you write! I really, really loved the Changeling!Cathy faux-reveal and was a bit put out by its last-chapter reversal (all books can do with more weird changelings, lbr), so any Changeling!Cathy fic - or fic where she's human but grappling with the fact that she enjoyed elements of the time when she thought she was a soulless creature - is always adored. Background/co-existing Cathy/Laon very welcome for any of these requests. If you're interested in the sex/kink side of things here are the tags I requested for all these ships in Femslash Kink once upon a time, if you're interested in the 'Other M/E-rated Content' side of things, I have some horror-specific likes/prompts in last year's Multifandom Horror letter (short version: more cults, more Hunts, more people Coming Back Wrong(tm)).
Ariel/Cathy: Hello absolutely everything I love about obsession and multilayered power dynamics and dressing each other up to die!
Ariel/Mab: I know Cathy-as-narrator has very little reason to know about their history but I want it!
Cathy/Kasdaye: I mean - "Have you not wanted to speak to me all your life?" makes me want pre-Arcadia Cathy dreaming of/dreaming with Kasdaye, but I would also love an AU of the masquerade where Kasdaye does succeed in telling Cathy's fortune, and how everything changes unexpectly from there - would Cathy still kill Ariel, knowing Kasdaye had already seen her do so? Kasdaye trying to take over Ariel's position as Cathy's guide in Arcadia after the Hunt, or time that they spend post-canon together in Pivot. What are Kasdaye's fae friends like, what dream cults might she be a part of, what happens if she brings Cathy deeper into her world? Kasdaye's a super neat temptress-and-oracle fusion that gets right at all the things Cathy's upbringing has taught her to fear, but in a way that's canonically more appealing than Mab's presentation of the forbidden, so I'd love something that plays with that.
Cathy/Mab: Changeling Cathy! Either one where Mab made her before sending her off into the mortal world, or one where Mab decides to turn her into one at some point during/after the events of the book (look ... we don't know how Changelings are made, it's totally possible). I wasn't entirely sold on the 'Arcadia = literally Hell' conceit of the ending, so maybe something where that was Mab's real lie? Human Cathy becomes one of Mab's courtiers in exchange for Laon's life/freedom. But, look, Cathy killed someone she liked to spite Mab, even if Laon's soul was also playing some part in that decision, I am gonna be super into whatever you write for them! Arcadian adventures and rituals, Cathy-as-servant, Cathy-as-toy, Arcadian politicking ... all excellent. Post-canon time in Pivot or Elphane, Cathy discovering Arcadian myths and legends and sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong. What does Arcadian regional horror look like? Mab fucking around with Cathy's dreams - visiting her, pulling elements of her dreams into reality.
Kasdaye/Mab: Pre-canon! I love Queen-and-Lady stuff, and Kasdaye's blood-soaked fortune telling, and how wonderfully, beautifully, awful-in-all-senses-of-the-world fae bodies can be.
I love these canons for the worldbuilding and mytharcs as well as their characters and relationships, and I am easy to please as long as you stay away from my DNWs, so don't feel like you Have to write any of my specific prompts.
- Jailbreak! Flannery, out of jail (perhaps with Natasha's help?) and on the run, chronicling her escape and her new life. Murder road trips encouraged.
- Post-canon, in an AU where Flan never goes to jail, she and Natasha run into another member of the Basic Eight - except this time, other people can see Natasha too.
- Battlestar Galactica AU. I know it's not an AU I usually request, but I need (more of) Natasha as the Six to Flan's Baltar in my life.
- Natasha is real, and the weirdness comes from the fact that they killed Flan's parents pre-canon and are covering it up.
- Any missing-scene dinner party, because I love both the parties themselves and Flan being blissfully unaware no one else can see Natasha there.
- Horror AUs/spins where the Eight are a real Satanic cult.
- Outsider POVs! I suspect these work better in Natasha-was-real AUs, but I'd love to see them in either version. I am thinking perhaps V__ as the POV character (surely she, with all her money, has seen or heard of other people getting away with worse?), but whoever your heart chooses! What would, say, the end-of-chapter study questions look like coming from her?
General:
Note: Apocalypse DNW obviously waived for this fandom, but I prefer no in-story mass death/things getting Distinctly Worse

Also yes.
- AUs where Katrine is Birgitte's ex, instead of Kasper's. Either romantic ex or an Anne-Sophie type figure, and what that means for their (re)developing relationship after the Moderates are elected.
- Post-s3, Birgitte back as Staatsminister in a leftist government with Katrine as her spin doctor.
- Fic set in one of the between-seasons gaps - Katrine covering an event Birgitte is speaking at, a legislation-of-the-week fic like some of the early s1 episodes.
- AUs where Birgitte's ill-advised one night stand is with Katrine instead of her driver.
Birgitte/Hanne: Also known as: the scene early in s1 where someone was like 'no one wants to hire Hanne anymore' and Birgitte responded by giving her the first question made a much bigger impact on me than anyone intended.
- They choose the same bathroom/hallway to hide out in during some boring event.
- Anything set in the s2-s3 timeskip.
- Pre-canon one night stand when Birgitte was younger & the relationship not as potentially scandalous, and how that affects their new professional relationship (reunions + reminiscing over coffee?).
Hanne/Katrine: Their relationship is hands-down the best part of s2, and I love that they both truly need each other and are good friends to each other in a way that transcends their (theoretical) mentor-student positions.
- Post-canon, covering the new administration, Katrine readjusting to news journalism after her time with the New Democrats.
- Post-canon, Katrine continues working with Birgitte, Hanne stays in news journalism, and what effect that has on their relationship.
- Working on a story together in the s1-s2 timeskip.
- An exception to my kidfic DNW: the two of them with Gustav post-canon, Katrine offering Hanne the chance to develop some kind of relationship with him the way she didn't get to with her own daughter.
- Uncomplicated friends-with-benefits arrangements.
- Trippy-creepy dream sequences, of the sexy and/or horror bent.
- Samantha trying to remake Ava. Could she bring Ava out of another swan? Is it an Ava 2.0/came back wrong situation? I wish to know.
- I have a hmmm complicated relationship with the fact that Samantha had to effectively create a male version of herself in order to do what she wanted (including having a relationship with another woman and trying to murder other women). Fascinating from a story perspective! A little bit heartbreaking, also. So AU where instead of Max it's an actual effective Samantha-clone. What changes - in Samantha's mind, in the mind of created!Samantha, in Ava's reaction?
- Ava POV. How does a Darling's mind work? What does she think of Samantha, of Max, of the other Bunnies?
- AUs where Samantha doesn't lose track of Ava. What changes in the murder attempts?
- Outsider POV from any of the Bunnies. They can and do critique heteronormativity for making literature boring, but they can't quite excise it from their own lives (they do a lot of murder about it instead, which, like, love that for them) and I'm dying to see what they think about Samantha's relationship to Ava when they're not filtering it through several layers of 'and how can we present this to Samantha so she does what we want'.

They're ridiculous. I'm obsessed.
- Pre-canon first times, especially ones that lean into the mentorship aspect of their relationship. Night before battle sex, how the hell did we survive that sex.
- I firmly believe Farah's not dead, and I'm really curious if they've played around with the very thin line between life and death before, whether that's risky sex, edgeplay, or full-on death-and-resurrection.
- Rosalind reaching out from her prison to touch Farah's mind - whether that goes in a dreamsharing direction or a 'Rosalind instructing Farah how to get herself off, and Farah guiltily going along with it because she misses her so much' direction.
- Miscellaneous song prompts for the Vibes(tm): Katatonia's 'We Must Bury You' (Forgive me for covering my eyes / Forgive me for not saving you / Forgive me for being so unwise / Forgive me for letting this be true), Blackbriar's 'Walking Over My Grave' (Is that you dancing in front of my future headstone? / You will be the death of me, I feel it in my bones / I might as well dance along with you), Lord of the Lost's 'Cut Me Out' (Fear casts the longest shadow / Turning your heart into glass / No, don't you move or we both will break)
- Roleswap! I am 1000% here for all Ripper!Bedelia/FBI!Alana or Ripper!Alana/FBI!Bedelia AUs, whether they start out on those roles or one of them manipulates the other into killing.
- Any kind of therapy session(s) between the two, in one of those AUs or in canon.
- One of them seducing the other away from Hannibal.
- Folk horror! Alana stumbles into an Abigail-and-Marissa-led murder commune in Minnesota and gets much more than she bargained for.
- Post-Italy debriefs.
- Alana takes over as Abigail's guardian, and goes to Bedelia for help understanding her. Whether that turns into Alana/Bedelia+Abigail murderfamily, or whether Alana's in over her head with Shrike!Abigail and Bedelia sees opportunities there.
- Outsider POV, especially from Freddie.

Rhona/Asha: I love Asha a lot a lot, and I really wish we'd gotten more of her outside of Jimmy's perspective.
- Season 3 AUs where Asha's fling was with Rhona instead of Jimmy (Rhona cheating on Phyllis/Rhona-and-Phyllis never happening/the two of them had already broken up all good). What changes, both about how they approach the case and in terms of how they might be able to move on together after everything in a way Jimmy couldn't.
- I think a lot about Asha's 'a life worth living' line, and imagine it would be at the forefront of Rhona's post-Phyllis mind as well. Let them figure it out together!
- Anything and everything about Shetland-as-place and Shetland-as-home, and how the land helps them find a connection together. Long walks, getting caught in the rain, getting drunk on the beach watching the auroras together.
- Anything about Rhona coming to see Cassie as truly her own person rather than just her friend's kid, and Cassie seeing Rhona as someone other than her dad's friend - vignettes throughout the years would be very nice.
- Rhona as Cassie's first kiss with a woman (even if it doesn't go further than making out because of professionalism).
- Selkie or other mythological AUs, especially if it's a 'everything's the same as canon but also they're fey' sort of deal.
- Bonding over heartbreak post-s3 leads to something more.
- A one night stand a few years post-canon when they've both had really shite days.
- I would love some of Ariel's POV on the novel's events - she has a sort of resignation to liminality about her that I find fascinating. What if she had been given more time to convince Cathy she was a Changeling too, or chose to use sex to prove that they're more alike than Cathy wants to admit?
- Ariel trying to sell Laon or Cathy to Mab in exchange for the other's safety, and what happens when the siblings find out about it.
- Resurrection and its attempts. Mab resurrects her and gives her to Cathy as a present, and they try to figure out what to do with that? Cathy resurrecting her on accident because she doesn't understand [magic Arcadian thing]? Ariel comes back (and back, and back, and back, and wronger each time)?
- Ill-advised wanderings into the depths of Arcadia, especially if that's an excuse to dig into the myths and religions and folklore of Fae or Changelings - what stories have they developed that Ariel and Cathy might stumble into in this land where everything's just a bit too real?
- Also intrigued by the possibility of them meeting in the mortal world sometime before Cathy travels to Arcadia - what would that meeting look like, what kind of traps might Ariel try to set (at Mab's encouraging?), would Cathy notice something off about her?
- More about the Hunt! Ariel and Cathy dressing each other up the morning before the Hunt. Murder is the highest form of aesthetic appreciation in Arcadia, so after the Hunt it falls upon Cathy to resurrect and marry Ariel, because they are obviously destined to be with each other.
- Some kind of time loop, either while they're waiting for Laon to come back or during the Hunt. Time loops where only one is trapped, time loops where it gets worse every time, time loops that one of them shoved the other into to try to protect her.
- Flower- and plant-based body horror, especially stemming from the hunt. While I don't like the true-love part of hanahaki I do love the 'cursed to choke on flowers because of your complicated relationship with someone else' part - maybe Cathy's cursed after she kills Ariel?
- Killing someone together - Laon? Mr Benjamin? Attempted or temporary murder of Mab, and the consequences?
Ariel/Mab: I know Cathy-as-narrator has very little reason to know about their history but I want it!
- How was Ariel summoned back from the mundane world? How did Mab 'lay claim' to her changeling - did she get any pushback form other Faerie lords? Did Ariel ever think about defecting to another court, or is that not allowed by Faerie laws? AU where she did defect to another court, and how that influenced her relationships with both Mab and Catherine.
- Is necromancy possible in Arcadia? Came back wrong fic would be delightful. Mab bringing her back as punishment - Ariel's punishment or Cathy's punishment or both. Alternatively, 'came back just the same and is absolutely furious about it'.
- Ariel - or whatever's left of her - confronting Mab about the Hunt, before or after it happens.
- Flower- and plant-based body horror. In general, as always, but also - look, I dislike the 'one true love' element of hanahaki disease but the idea that a specific type of horror can only be stopped by one specific person is very good. Especially if it's something related to Mab's claim on Ariel, that type of possession/control and Ariel's reaction to it (does she grow to love it? does Cathy try to free her from it?)
- Mab seduces Ariel (by murdering other people), Mab claims Ariel (by making her murder other people), Mab loves watching Ariel (murder other people).
