SWG Holiday Feast: Commenting

Fanworks commented on for the [community profile] silwritersguild's Holiday Feast challenge, with links and descriptions. It (hopefully?) goes without saying that I rec all of these :D

Starters: Comment on a fanwork (or several, of course!) that deals with a beginning in some form or another.

histories, full of stars. the silmarillion & other histories of middle-earth, varda/ungoliant. teen, 3.2k words. by [archiveofourown.org profile] RaisingCaiin

Most of those who tell the world’s histories begin them in much the same way. But then too – most of those who tell the world’s histories also tell them quite utterly wrong.

Hear now a tale that has been utterly lost.

The history of the beginning of the world, except with more of the dark/light ladies who cannot exist without each other but are not really going to be good for each other that I adore in fiction.

Fish Course: [W]e invite you to take a closer look at the maritime themes, locations and characters of the Legendarium.

add salt to the sea. the silmarillion & other histories of middle-earth, tar-míriel/uinen. mature, 3k words. by [archiveofourown.org profile] Zdenka

Míriel has always loved the Sea. After the Downfall of Númenor, the Lady of the Seas offers her refuge and comfort.

I never, ever tire of 'Uinen saves Míriel and they're weird eldritch girlfriends together forever' fics, and this is a wonderful take on that with bonus wonderful exploration of how Mí grew up.

Main Course: I chose 'nature' from the list of themes.

and the river ever flowing. the silmarillion & other histories of middle-earth + the lord of the rings, gimli~legolas + indis/míriel serinde + andreth/finrod + melian/thingol + lúthien/thuringwethil + thranduil/thranduil's wife. teen, 1.6k words. by [archiveofourown.org profile] mickleborger

(we are the waxing moon/we are the starless void/we are the endless well)

ooky spooky elves and the things that regret looking a little too closely them

Nat comma once again coming for my whole entire life with fey elves and the forests and the mountains and the valleys that have eaten them because they love them.

Dessert: Comment on something “short and sweet” that is less than 1000 words.

at starlight in the forest. the silmarillion & other histories of middle-earth, aredhel/lúthien. teen, 300 words. by [archiveofourown.org profile] Elleth

Aredhel has reasons for braving Nan Dungortheb again.

I am the first to admit I am not great at 'sweet' fics, especially for Tolkien, but Elleth is so good at them that ye can't not read and love.

Cheese Course: Because "cheese rounds off the meal", comment on something that was written specifically for the Holiday Feast challenge - any course.

'Created for' rather than perhaps strictly 'written', but [personal profile] nienna324's Numenor playlist is really excellent.

Thanks for the rec!

'Uinen saves Míriel and they're weird eldritch girlfriends together forever' fics: I like this description of the genre, and I don't get tired of them either!

Eee, you're doing chocolate box? :D I am thinking about it but wasn't sure whether anyone I know would be taking part.

Nice! I am very monofandom, I only write Tolkien, but luckily all the different Tolkien fandoms seem to count separately - and it's only a 300 word minimum, so I might give it a go :)
