It's amazing how much reading spoilers demoralized me for this movie, but also, honestly, I would have been more pissed had I not had them?
I still haven't seen it yet. I'm not even looking forward to it. It's really sad. It honestly feels like a chore to go see it and I had day one tickets to TLJ. I'm sure hoping it looks better on screen than what I'm reading, which is basically that they retconned TLJ in as much as possible and hastily papered over the cracks.
Speaking of, I feel spectacularly disappointed Disney doesn't even have the stones to standby their 96% well-reviewed movie TLJ and instead sponsored a two-hour movie that basically seems built to only justify the opinions of the loudest, most despicable fanbois who basically complain it doesn't match their vision of what a made-up movie would be. Say what you will about the PT -- most of the criticism is fair -- but at least Lucas had enough stones to stand by his vision, and not issue a two-hour apologia to the people who hated Jar Jar.
(Though, now that I think about it, one of the things Disney did early on in the EU was re-write Jar Jar's EU canon - while Jar Jar in the Legends EU is a senator and political activist up into ROTJ times, the Disney! EU Jar Jar is exiled from his people and forced to earn his pauper living as a clown that no one likes.)
I've read criticism that says TLJ left JJ no place to run to in TROS, but I don't think that's true at all. TLJ left a pretty clear divide between a Kylo who had doubled-down on Evil, and a Rey who was out to save the galaxy -- and him, too. I don't see why they felt the need to bring back Palpatine at all tbh - Ren is a good villain, and I'd love to see him being conflicted for two hours instead of a two-hour fetch quest that literally just regurgitates the end of ROTJ again but with less hope of seeing someone make a silly video about Kylo ripping a truly excellent Harmonica riff before his very disappointed girlfriend the way grandpa does here.
TL;DR: TLJ was fairly wizard, TROS is not wizard, and JJ has 99 issues but blue milk isn't one of them.
