two silm drabbles
The
silwritersguild discord did instadrabbling last weekend (one person posts a set of four words as a prompt, everyone else writes a drabble incorporating the words) and I have, apparently, not left my tiny creepy ficlet Mood back with Hallowe'en but have carried it into the rest of fall. AO3 and I are once again always In Disagreement about how the Silm tags Should go so they're only here + on the SWG for now (xposting ughh, as I said on tumblr when I just. linked to this post).
Title: time (you are light)
Characters: Lalaith, vague horrorterrors
Rating: G
Prompt set: heart, stroke, encounter, fire
Elsewhere: SWG
The branches' fingers stroke through Lalaith's hair, one, two, one, two, three, still in perfect time with her dead heart's beat.
One, two, one-two-three she counts the creatures arrayed in front of her, the rabbit and the bird and the thing that looks like her brother.
(She misses her brother. She is sorry he did not stay with her, here by the river.)
She had not known what she would encounter when she left her body for the last time but she likes the trees, likes the river.
Likes the fire bloody-red in the night, that calls Túrin home.
Title: craving roses (i'm coming for you)
Characters: Aredhel, Aredhel/Thuringwethil if you squint
Rating: G
Prompt set: fragrant, bustle, refused, hastened
Elsewhere: SWG
The fragrance of the night-blooming flowers sets Aredhel's head spinning as soon as she opens her eyes. In the dark, the forest is another creature entirely, bent to the will of the bustling animals and - her eyes drop to the vine curling around her wrist - plants.
Other nights, she might have refused the call of the leathery wing-beat in her ears; tonight, she feels dangerous.
There is a shadow making haste across the sky, lit with something Aredhel knows better than to name. She stands with care, tips her head back.
There is not much longer to wait.
