I have accomplished the bare minimum and made the (currently very empty) [community profile] thelonelylake for my fic. I am now faced with the 'what and how to crosspost' question, which I did not have to contemplate when posting to single-fandom archives but now have to think about. And I am in the business of outsourcing this type of thinking these days, so, a poll.

(One thing I am considering is that I think comms will Always display things in posted order, rather than by set dates? Is this right? I feel like that's right. So while part of me wants to preserve the original posting date, idk if setting the date will like ... do anything.)

In the spirit of actually wanting to have a memory of this year, I'm thinking of keeping an oldskool media log here. Does anyone have a template they like for that, or are we still just doing lists these days? I can always look at [community profile] dreamcodes but that's also a guaranteed way to spend Hours lost staring at pretty layouts.

Hey y'all, the Mighty Nein keep killing everyone I love and I am really, really tired of the new 'if the party doesn't kill and mutilate the corpse of every morally questionable woman who's ever been mean to a dude NPC they're evil and I hate them' flavour of misogyny that campaign 2 fandom has. I have a whoooole lot of thoughts on how Matt's ladyvillains are often coming from a fundamental place of wanting to live and how that gets them called The Ultimate Evil, but that is for another time. It's Samhain so let's talk resurrection!

If you're pleased Avantika and/or Vess are dead do us both a favour and keep scrolling xo.

Vess has already been resurrected, by herself. Her clone is in:

Rexxentrum, the better to barge into her colleagues' offices going 'guess who just fucking murdered me'.

Rosohna, because resurrecting behind enemy lines is the Ultimate power move.

Nicodranas, obviously, resurrection sickness is a bitch and she deserves some R&R before getting revenge.
1 (33.3%)

Tal'Dorei, somewhere, she took a page from Delilah's book and decided an ocean between herself and her enemies would be useful.

Somewhere I've forgotten, but that you will explain in comments.

Clones are for other people, Vess is fine because:

Jester and/or Caduceus are going to do a group-authorised Raise Dead on her in a couple days, because politics.

She died too close to the sea, Uk'otoa's archmage now.

Here's how Avantika can still win:

Landing with the Water Ashari, being given a hot new body via True Resurrection, initially plans to turn them to Uk'otoa worship but unwittingly develops an actually healthy relationship with the sea (to her horror).
0 (0.0%)

Landing in Raishan's new lair, getting a new and better patron and also a new and better body.
0 (0.0%)

Uk'otoa's revenant, again. Seriously, someone please give her a body that hasn't been trashed.
0 (0.0%)

Vess left an extremely pretty body behind, costume party time.
0 (0.0%)

Died in the sea, tempest-death goddess Vesh's revenant now. Vesh is probably looking for a new spouse, Vesh would totally give her a new hot body.
2 (66.7%)

Some other way I haven't thought of yet, but that you will describe in comments.

Okay so.

You know when Wonder Woman came out, and there were gifsets upon gifsets of General Antiope being badass on horseback and otherwise generally wonderful and everyone was all thrilled about girls being both princesses AND generals and she did stunts in fabulous Romanesque armour, and then I never actually saw the movie for assorted petty and practical reasons but I loved her from afar, and then a year and a half later found a one-sentence reference to her being treated terribly in some meta post and I looked it up and found out she was killed off like fifteen minutes into the movie?

(I still have not seen Wonder Woman. In fact, that information ensures I will never see Wonder Woman. There is no point to girls also being generals if you kill them off after ten minutes of screentime. Please don't try to convince me to watch Wonder Woman.)

Please tell me whether death also befalls the older lady superhero/mentor figure in Captain Marvel - I don't even know her name because I am None MCU, but if she dies then it falls permanently off my maybe-get-around-to list.

I like disastrous obsessive girls and unreliable narrators and settings-that-are-characters and psychological horror, among other things. non-dude authors preferred. the last book i finished was the haunting of hill house (shirley jackson), am currently reading the bear and the nightingale (katherine arden), next will probably be the traitor baru cormorant (seth dickinson).

also if you're wondering if i type the vast majority of my book-question posts on my phone while lying on the floor of my favourite indie bookshop you would be correct, excuse the typos my screen is too small to show me and autocorrect may catch and may make worse.

(the problem, you see, with dreamwidth moving so quickly these days, is that i keep forgetting who mentioned excellent-sounding books and then because i am bad at remembering to add them to my memories, i also forget where they are! and the last four pages of my reading page are all today!)

ETA: wow yes you all have super great taste and also apparently strong feelings on twin peaks? i have never seen the show but i am delighted by that spinoff discussion. i am definitely set for my next few library trips now :D

Hi, friends! I need someone who's read Seth Dickinson's The Traitor Baru Cormorant to answer a question for me before I pick it up. Vague spoilers under the cut, probably more specific ones in comments.

no, seriously, spoilers live here )

If it's not skippable, is there anything similar you'd rec without the thing?
